We recognize the multitude of Maryland home care options that you have for your senior loved one and are proud of the qualities that set us apart:

  • Customized Care – we listen to your specific needs and identify a Personal Care Attendant who is uniquely qualified to assist your loved ones, while always remaining flexible to change.
  • Continuous Monitoring – we have created a system of regularly monitoring your loved one and our Attendants through home visits and telephone check-ins.
  • Cultural Appreciation – our personnel are culturally competent and particularly aware of how cultural differences impact and influence daily life.
  • Specialize in Difficult Situations – this includes strong personalities and hard cases, as well as servicing difficult-to-reach rural and urban areas.

COVID-19 Response

We appreciate that these unprecedented times call for extra caution, particularly within the high-risk elderly community.  Read more details on our Covid-19 Response here.

Maryland Senior Population

Fortunately, Maryland is a senior-friendly state.  In fact, the Baltimore County Department of Aging predicts that roughly 25% of the county’s population will be considered senior citizens (age 65 and older) by the end of 2020.

With social isolation being a pressing concern for elderly people (particularly during the current COVID-19 pandemic), having quality compassionate home care has never been more important for the growing senior community in Maryland.

Is it Time for In-Home Care?

It is very common for seniors to eventually need some form of assistance with day-to-day Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) and Instrumental Activities of Daily Life (IADLs).  There are a wide range of needs within these in-home care categories, all of which are very different from home health care services. Informing yourself about the differences between all of these senior care options can help you determine if it’s time to look for an in-home care provider, and which type you need.

  • Home health care includes medical services such as diagnosis, treatment and medical advice.  Care providers are medical professionals (such as doctors, nurses or therapists) from home health agencies, hospitals or private practices.   Home health care services are covered by both Medicare and Medicaid as they must be prescribed by a medical professional.
  • In-home care, or home care, provides comprehensive non-medical senior care services to help elderly people with essential day-to-day activities.  Services might include assistance with bathing, dressing and eating as well as medication reminders, meal prep and companionship.  In-home care is often covered by Medicaid, however it is not covered by Medicare.

What is an In-Home Care Provider?

An in-home care provider is someone who provides non-medical caregiving services to a senior in their home.  The provider will most often be either:

  • A spouse or family member acting as a caregiver
  • A private nurse or home health aide
  • An attendant from a professional home care agency

How Do I Choose an Elderly Caregiver?

Choosing a caregiver for your loved one can feel overwhelming, particularly if you have been acting as their main support.  You may find it difficult to imagine how anyone else could possibly provide the level of comfort care that you can.

This is precisely why contacting a professional home care agency, such as Family Choice Healthcare, has so many advantages.  We thoroughly vet and train each of our Personal Care Attendants so you can feel confident that each and every Attendant will provide consistent quality care.

One of the main keys to our client satisfaction has been that we provide our clients and their family caregivers with the option to choose their own Attendant.  Our Attendants have a reputation of forming deep bonds with their senior clients, in part because we work closely with you to choose the Attendant who will best suit your loved one’s unique needs.

Our Process

  1. Initial Assessment: our team will come to you and observe the senior in their own environment as well as hear you share your story and describe the care services that you feel may be needed.  From there we will discuss our services and begin to formulate a plan.
  2. Personal Care Attendant Interview: we will work with you to select Attendants to interview that we feel will best suit your needs and family situation.
  3. Personalized Care Plan: we will work with the Attendant you have selected, your loved one and yourself to establish a personalized care plan that is customized to suit your needs.
  4. Consistent Communication: our team will maintain ongoing communication to ensure your satisfaction and to monitor any changes in your needs.
  5. Quality Control: Family Choice Healthcare has systems in place that assure consistency in service quality and total satisfaction from our senior clients and their families.
